Larissa Karpenko of Alchemy Face Bar
Interview by Carlee Henderson
Name: Larissa Karpenko
Profession: Esthetician/Yoga Instructor
Company: Alchemy Facebar Denver/Boulder
You're a jack of all trades! How did you get started and what drew you to your professions?
“I’ve always had a passion for skin care and being active. Working out has always been my medicine, In 2010 I went to my first yoga class- after feeling the automatic benefits from just one class I knew that I wanted to teach other people to feel this way. As for skin, I struggled with acne as a young adult and tried many products/dermatologists/doctors/medications and nothing worked. After learning more about skin and diving into more of a holistic approach I realized that this is something I am extremely passionate about and could spend my life learning how to heal the skin with plant based products.”
How long have you been an Esthetician? What do you specialize in?
“I’m new in the esthetics world! Before skin I was a cosmologist, focusing on hair. Cutting hair is still an art form and interest of mine but I realized I was much more drawn to the holistic side of things involving skin.”
What is the best part about your job?
“Helping people feel great and more knowledgable about their skin. I am such a big self care advocate and I’m a bigger people person so it’s truly the perfect fit for me!”
What advice would you give your clients if they haven't been to an Esthetician before?
“If you have never had a facial before- a few words of advice… you will never look back. If you are looking for a treat yo self-monthly you time, having problems that you want to target, having trouble finding your own skincare regimen, learn about plant based products, or just want to have the glowy look we’re all talking about, then come in! I promise you- it’s the ultimate self care treat but also extremely pro active and beneficial- especially living in our dry climate in Colorado.”
Beauty/ holistic beauty secrets you swear by?
“Manuka honey and coffee beans are my two favorite holistic beauty secrets. Manuka honey is an anti-inflammatory and is packed with lots of antioxidants. Great for acne, dryness, aging, and the all over tone of your skin. Coffee beans are great for exfoliation, helping build collagen, and fighting premature aging of cells! Mix those two babies together to make an amazing face mask that will leave you glowing.”
